Abstract

[Also in Division A5] A building or vehicle roof ventilator comprises a cover formed by two flaps 15 hinged at 18 to a square or rectangular throat 10 and in their closed positions (Figs. 1, 2, not shown), having sides 16 vertical and tops 17 extending inwardly over a gutter 13 fixed at its ends by plates 14 above the throat 10. The flaps 15 are spring urged at hinges 18 towards their open positions and are controlled by cords (19) (Fig. 2) attached to sides 16 and passed through rings 22. Alternatively, one of the flaps 15 may be fixed. For simultaneous control, the cords (19) are joined at a point (20) to form a single cord which includes a fusible link to ensure opening of the flaps in the event of a fire. The joining point (20) may be chosen to limit the fully opened positions of the flaps. The flaps 15 have closed ends 23. In other embodiments, the tops 17 of the flaps 15 are provided with downwardly projecting flanges (30, 33, Figs. 4, 5 and 6, 7 respectively, not shown), the flanges (33), in the closed positions of the flaps, forming a V-shaped channel above the gutter 13, which in this form is narrower than that shown. When there is only one hinged flap 15, its top 17 may be wider or narrower than that shown.
