Abstract
114,926. Varley, G. P., and Smith, P. May 21, 1917. Casings; materials used in construction.-The impeller disk E is concave, and carries blades E<1> projecting from its concave face towards the inlet aperture, the blades forming a central space into which a sleeve J enters. The end of the sleeve J lies in close contiguity to the inner edges of the vanes, and is slightly tapered. The casing A, the sleeve J, and the impeller E with the blades E' are cast from acid-resisting alloy. The impeller is held on the shaft by a screwed cap I of acidresisting alloy, which also serves to protect the end of the shaft. The shaft is preferably journaled in bearings outside the casing, but the bearing may be carried on the casing.
