Apparatus for dispensing a zig-zag strip of scrap dough on to a moving band of fresh dough (not shown) comprises: an open-bottomed depositor 1 pivotally mounted at its upper end (into which scrap dough is fed) a piston-cylinder device 4 operated by fluid pressure, e.g. compressed air, for swinging the depositor to and fro across the moving band of fresh dough, and a fluid-pressure control system actuable by the depositor 1 to control the flow of fluid to the device 4. The strip of scrap dough is dispensed from the open bottom of the depositor 1. The device 4 may comprise a double-acting cylinder 7 and piston 3 connected to a ram 2 for swinging the depositor 1. The ram 2 may be detachably and adjustably pivoted to a swinging link 9 having a roller, which makes contact with the depositor 1. The amplitude of the swing of the depositor 1 may be varied by inserting the pivot pin into a desired hole of a series of aligned holes in the link 9. Alternatively, the link 9 may be pivotally connected to the depositor. The control system may comprise a slide-valve 6 actuated by fluid pressure, which slide-valve directs pressure fluid supplied by a pipe 5, alternately, through pipes 18 and 19 provided with throttle-valves 20 and 21, to opposite ends of the cylinder 7, and a pair of on-off switches 10 and 11, actuated by an arm 12 on the depositor, for directing pressure fluid, supplied by a pipe 15 branching from the pipe 5, alternately, through pipes 16 and 17 and optionally through delaying throttle-valves 23 and reservoirs 22, to opposite ends of the slide-valve 6.
