Abstract

1,149,240. Testing coils for short circuits; locating magnetic bodies. BRITISH AIRCRAFT CORP. Ltd. July 22, 1966 [July 22, 1965], No.31324/65. Headings G1N and G1U. A probe circuit for testing coils to indicate whether one or more turns are short circuited, or for detecting the presence of magnetic material, comprises a battery powered transistor oscillator which includes a probe transformer 3 whose windings are placed in concentric arrangement, inside or outside, the windings of the coil to be tested. A winding on the transformer energizes a neon 6. The circuit includes a switch 5 and a sensitivity control 7, which is adjusted so that the neon just lights in the absence of a test coil when the circuit is switched on. A short circuited turn or the presence of magnetic material causes the neon to flicker or to be extinguished.
