1,148,988. Modifying metal surfaces electrolytically. HYDROMECANIQUE ET FROTTEMENT. Oct.14, 1966 [Oct.15, 1965], No.46087/66. Addition to 1,059,619. Heading C7B. In a method of treatment for improving the frictional characteristics of a metal object by anodically treating said object in an electrolytic bath of molten salts as described in Specification 1,059,619, the electrolytic bath comprises a mixture of molten alkali metal thiocyanates, e.g.. a mixture of sodium and potassium thiocyanates, which may be eutectic mixture. The bath may also contain a ferricyanide and/or a ferrocyanide, and an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, and/or a,reducing gas, e.g. hydrogen may be blown into the bath during electrolysis. The object treated may comprise case-hardened and tempered steel or a metal previously electrolytically coated with iron or nickel.
