Abstract

1,184,418. Carbo-nitriding titanium and its alloys. DEUTSCHE GOLD-UND SILBERSCHEIDEAN-STALT. Jan.8, 1969 [Jan.12, 1968], No.1177/69. Heading C7U. Workpieces of titanium and titanium alloys are given improved wear resistance and fatigue strength by treatment in a salt bath containing not more than 60% of sodium and/or potassium cyanide, expressed as sodium cyanide, without any additions of cyanate. A preferred bath contains 50% Π10% of cyanide, expressed as sodium cyanide, while treatment may be carried out in the range 700 degrees - 900 degrees for 1 to 10 hours. The bath may be contained in a nickel vessel to minimise cyanate formation.
