1427574 Treating hardening-salt residues DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDEANSTALT 29 June 1973 [30 June 1972] 31204/73 Heading C1A A process for treating a cyanide and alkaline earth metal containing hardening-salt residue comprises suspending the residue, broken up into coarse fragments, in water, and treating it with a quantity, substantially stoichometrically equivalent to the cyanide component of the residue, of iron (II) chloride solution at a pH of 7-14, an alkali metal carbonate (optionally sodium carbonate) being present during the treatment, the quantity of alkali metal carbonate being at least an equimolar quantity corresponding to the alkaline earth metal present but not exceeding 30% by weight, based on the residue to be treated, to form a solution containing alkali metal ferrocyanide and a precipitate of alkaline earth metal carbonate.
