Abstract

1433221 Inhibiting scale formation CIBAGEIGY AG 15 March 1974 [27 March 1973] 14599/73 Heading C1C [Also in Division C3] A process for inhibiting scale formation in water and aqueous systems comprises treating the water of aqueous system with 0À1 to 500 p.p.m. by weight of an additive combination comprising (1) 20 to 85 weight per cent of hydrolysed polymaleic anhydride or a watersoluble salt thereof and (2) 15 to 80 weight per cent of a polyacrylic acid or polymethacrylic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof. Alternatively hydrolysable materials, e.g. polymaleic anhydride, polyacrylamide and polyacrylonitrile may be added to from the above materials in situ. Conventional additives, e.g. benzotriazoles, silicates, and chromium and nitriate ions, may also be added; and in examples the additive comprises hydrolysed polymaleic anhydride, polyacrylic acid and sodium carbonate.
