Abstract

1,148,690. Blends of chloroprene polymers. BP CHEMICALS (U.K.) Ltd. 30 May, 1968 [17 June, 1967], No. 28045/67. Heading C3P. A composition comprises (a) a cross-linked copolymer prepared by polymerizing chloroprene or a mixture of chloroprene and up to 20% by weight of a copolymerizable monomer in aqueous emulsion at 0-60‹ C. in the presence of 0À45-3À60 mole per cent based on total monomer of a dimethacrylate of either a C 2-6 dihydric alcohol or a polyether of such alcohol having 1 to 3 ether linkages per molecule to a conversion to polymer of at least 85% by weight and (b) a benzene-soluble chloroprene polymer having a Mooney viscosity ML4 of 20-60 at 100‹ C., the proportion of a: b being between 80-20 and 20-80% by weight. Polymer (a) is preferably made by polymerizing chloroprene and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate in a conventional modifier-free recipe. Polymer (b) may be a mixture of a liquid polymer and a solid polymer provided the blend has the requisite Mooney viscosity.
