Abstract

1460910 Laminates HOECHST AG 26 Nov 1973 [24 Nov 1972] 34867/76 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] A laminated assembly which has vibration damping properties comprises two sheets having between them, an interlayer comprising a crosslinked polymer derived from a mixture comprising (1) (a), 20-80 wt. per cent based on (a) plus (b) of a copolymer of (i) 20-60 wt. per cent of 2-ethylhexyl acrylate; (ii) 20-50 wt. per cent of vinyl acetate and (iii) 10- 40 wt. per cent of dibutyl moleate (all based on the total of (i) to (iii)), dissolved in (b) 80-20 wt. per cent (based on (a) plus (b)) of vinyl acetate or a mixture thereof with another ethylenic monomer whose homopolymer differs from the homopolyvinyl acetate in its Tg by at least 20‹ C., and (2) 0À01 to 10 wt. per cent based on the total weight of component (1) of at least one cross-linking monomer having at least two ethylenic groups. In the examples, the two outer sheets are 0À5 mm. thick stainless steel, and the interlayer is 0À3 mm. thick; the additional monomer used in (b) is butyl acrylate or 2-ethyl hexyl acrylate, and the cross-linking monomer is divinyl benzene or tetraallyl oxyethane.
