Abstract

1,148,291. Refractories. GLAVERBEL. 13 April, 1966 [23 July, 1965], No. 16257/66. Heading C1J. The electrical properties of a porous body or a loose particle mass are modified e.g. increased conductance, by introducing into the pores or interstices a gas or gases containing vaporized or molten tin halide and free oxygen or a compound donating oxygen, to cause at least one compound of tin and oxygen to form in situ and deposit in the pores or interstices. The halide and oxygen can be conveyed separately or together. A tellurium and/or molybdenum compound can also be deposited. The process is applicable to SnO 2 Πany of the following: ZrO 2 ; clay; SiO 2 ; silico-aluminates; carbides; borides; nitrides and silicides; and oxides of Ti, Zr, Al, Mo, Cr, W, and Nb; and also a mortar of SnO 2 and H 3 PO 4 .
