Abstract
1,147,823. Brush-making machines. H. ZAHORANSKY [trading as ANTON ZAHORANSKY]. 2 June, 1966 [2 June, 1965; 12 Jan., 1966], No. 24711/66. Heading A4K. [Also in Divisions B3 and G3] In a brush drilling and filling machine, in which the stock holder positioning mechanism is controlled by a programmed tape 32a, pawl actuating mechanisms 143-146 scan the tape transversely to its direction of intermittent feed and actuate the pawls 157 to provide the required movement of ratchet wheels 150. The ratchet wheels 150 rotate worms (87) meshing with worm segments (88) formed on levers (20) of the stock holder positioning link work. In one form (Fig. 6, not shown), projections (33) on the tape (32) engage the ends of Bowden cables (41) to actuate the pawls (48-50) mechanically. In another form (Fig. 13, not shown), feelers (114) enter holes 110 in tape 32a and simultaneously lock pawls (104) in engagement with ratchet wheels (103). In Fig. 16, reciprocating frame 173 carries a scanning head 63b over stationary tape 32a and simultaneously rocks arms 156 by racks 168, 169 meshing with toothed segments 170, 171. When, during the forward stroke of frame 173, the scanning head 63b encounters an hole 110, a light source (148) actuates a photo-electric device (149) therethrough. Simultaneously, device 149 actuates electromagnet 151 to bring pawl 157 into engagement with ratchet wheel 150 for the remainder of the stroke. For the return stroke, the electromagnet 151 is de-energized and the tape 32a stepped forwardly, in preparation for the heat scanning stroke. Pawls 157 may, alternatively, be electro-pneumatically operated. The punched tape 32a may be replaced by an embossed metal tape (178, Fig. 21, not shown) scanned by a switchoperating feeler (181), arranged to prevent simultaneous energization of both electromagnets 151 of the same ratchet wheel 150.
