Abstract
1,147,359. Fluidized bed furnaces. POWERGAS CORP Ltd. 25 Oct., 1967 [29 Oct., 1966], No. 48586/66. Heading F4B. Fluidized bed apparatus for the production of cyanic acid and ammonia by heating urea in a stream of ammonia gas comprises six fluidized bed reactors 2 disposed uniformly of and extending through the roof and floor of a furnace 1, and burners 3 disposed in the floor and supplied with hot air from a preheater 11 in the flue 17 via lines 12 and 13 and branches 6, a fan 9 supplying the air to the preheater. The burners are disposed uniformly between the reactors 2 and the circular furnace wall opposite spaces between said reactors, with one burner at the centre of the furnace. Ammonia gas is supplied through line 24 and valve-controlled branches 28 and urea prills through line 25 and valve controlled branches 30, reaction products passing off through cyclones 21 and lines 22 and 23. Each reactor is supported either at the top or bottom, the other end being free for expansion. In a modification (Fig. 3), an ammonia preheater is also disposed in the flue, with further heating coils inside the furnace near the floor. Another modification (Fig. 4), has the burners in the walls and a final modification (Fig. 6) has them in the roof.
