Abstract

Cohesive solids, in particular, are fluidised by means of a fluidising gas by transferring them from an upper into a lower fluidisation zone or vice versa, in which process they pass a multiplicity of intermediate tubular, heatable fluidisation zones having smaller tube diameters than the upper and lower zone mentioned. In this central zone, heat is transferred to the fluidised solids. In the upper and in the lower zone the solids are stirred mechanically. At the same time, the fluidising gas flows upwards, so that the solids can be moved with or against the stream. As this process results in optimum heat transfer, it is possible, by mixing with appropriate reactants, to carry out chemical reactions with cohesive solids, without the solids agglomerating or igniting spontaneously.
