Abstract

1,147,304. Topping root crops. BODENBEARBEITUNGSGERATE VEB. 4 July, 1967, No. 30837/67. Heading A1F. An agricultural machine particularly for topping beet comprises a first cutter 1 for cutting the plant foliage, and a second cutter 9 for topping the plant, the cutter 1 preceding the cutter 9 in the direction of travel of the machine and having its cutting edge arranged at a higher level than the cutting edge of cutter 9, a first conveyer 2 being positioned adjacent to and co-operating with the cutter 1 and a second conveyer 14 being positioned adjacent cutter 9. The cutter 1 may comprise a mowing beam and the conveyer 2 may comprise a worm conveyer at the delivery end of which is located an impeller (4) which directs the foliage on to a conveyer belt (6). Beet tops removed by cutters 9 are thrown by ejectors 12 against a baffle wall 13 disposed diagonally above an earth separating conveyer 14 which also receives foliage from the conveyer belt (6). The conveyer 14 delivers the beet leaves and tops to a belt elevator or a blower (17). A comminuting device may be provided on or adjacent to the first conveyer 2 or adjacent to the elevator.
