Abstract
1,147,264. Heat-treating permanent magnets. CENTRE D'INFORMATION DU COBALT SOC. ANON. Jan.16, 1968 [Feb.3, 1967], No.5258/67. Heading C7A. Cast or sintered permanent magnet alloys containing in percentage by weight: Al 6 - 8 Ni 13 - 16À5 Co 30 - 38 Cu 2-6 Ti 4 - 7 Nb + Ta 0À4 - 2 Fe balance with or without up to 3% in total of one or more of Ce, Cr, S, Se, Pb, Sn, Te, Si, Sb, Zr, Mn, Mg, W, Mo, V, P are cooled from 1250‹C. to 600‹C. at an average rate of 0À5 to 3‹C. /sec., and are then tempered in the range 500‹ - 650‹C. A magnetic field may be applied to the alloys during cooling, being applied in the direction of predominant crystal orientation in the case of pieces having a columnar structure obtained by directional solidification of a casting. As exemplified, alloys are given a two-stage tempering within the stated range.
