1,147,217. Methacrylic acid esters. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 1 July, 1966 [2 July, 1965], No. 29677/66. Heading C2C. Methacrylic acid esters are prepared by dehydrogenating isobutyric acid esters with oxygen in the presence of iodine and an inert carrier with a mean pore radius of from 200 to 20,000Š and an internal surface area of from 0À05 to 10 sq. m/gm., at a temperature of from 400‹ to 700‹ C. Carriers may be petroleum coke, silicon carbide, porcelain, quartz powder or pumice and those containing silicates, aluminosilicates, and phosphates of potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, barium, aluminium and boron, and oxides of iron, titanium, manganese, cobalt, copper, nickel, zinc, boron, tungsten, molybdenum, chromium, cerium, and zirconium are preferred.
