Abstract

1,146,878. Vehicle suspensions. MOULTON DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. 15 Nov., 1967 [25 Nov., 1966], No. 52947/66. Heading B7D. An automobile vehicle has a suspension arrangement which includes hydraulic combined spring and displacer units 7 of the type described in Specification 942,829 having pistonrods 6 abutting front and rear wheel suspension arms 2 pivoted at 3 to the vehicle structure, the front and rear units 7 at each side of the vehicle being hydraulically interconnected by pipes 10 to form independent systems and the units 7 comprising hydraulic accumulator springs deflected by increase of hydraulic pressure, wherein the rear arms 2 each engage a rubber spring 20 mounted on the vehicle structure as the arm pivots upwards so as to increase the rear pitch stiffness and to compensate for loss of trim when the vehicle rear is laden. Each hydraulic accumulator spring employs rubber, or compressed gas, or a flexible diaphragm acted on by a coil spring or compressed gas. Damper valves act on the fluid flow between the displacer units, and between these and the accumulator springs. The spring 20 is bonded to a metal plate bolted to the vehicle structure.
