Abstract

1,146,251. Valves. S. P. KINNEY ENGS. Inc. 10 May, 1967, No. 21735/67. Heading F2V. A valve adapted to be mounted on top of a stack 4 of a blast furnace plant includes a casing 2 lined with refractory material 9 and provided at its upper end with a bevelled seat 8 for a cap-like closure member 10 which latter is also lined with refractory material 12. The closure member is pivoted at 16 to limbs 15 of a pair of bell-cranks pivoted at 20. A pin 22 at the ends of the other limbs 15a engages in a slot 23 of a link 24 pivoted at 25a to a crank lever 26 fast with shaft 27. A pair of crank levers 42 also fast with shaft 27 are pivoted at 41 to respective curved ends 40 of a pair of links 37 located at opposite sides of casing 2. Each link 37 is pivoted to a latching bell-crank 31 having a hook 32 engageable over lug 30 on the closure member. Rotation of shaft 27 by hand wheel 44 or motor 45 through worm gearing 43 initially causes counterclockwise movement of bellcranks 31 to release the closure member. Continued rotation causes pin 25 on link 24 to engage pin 22 to unseat the closure member. Pivotal movement of the closure member about pin 16 is restricted by screws 18. Turnbuckles 38 allow adjustment of the lengths of links 37.
