Abstract
1,146,142. Electrophotography. RANK XEROX Ltd. 1 April, 1966 [2 April, 1965], No. 14612/66. Heading H1K. An electrophotographic material comprises a substituted 2-phenylazo-4-alkoxy- 1 -naphthol of formula wherein X is alkoxy, and Y is alkyl, alkoxy, carboxy, nitro, cyano, halo or sulphonamide and n is 1 to 4. In the examples the substituents are Y = p-tolyl, p-ethylphenyl, m-tolyl, p-carboxyphenyl, m-xylyl and mesityl and X = i-propoxy, methoxy, ethoxy and npropoxy. The photosensitive material may be mixed with polyvinyl carbazole, polyethylmethacrylate, chlorinated polyphenyl, and P.V.C. as binders whilst sensitizing dyestuffs as specified in Specification 1,146,019 may also be used. Baryta paper, tin oxide coated glass or aluminium may be used as a support. A layer of P.V.C. may be applied to the photoconductive layer. The image formed on the phot6conductive layer may be developed electrophoretically, using toner particles or by heat deformation to give a relief or frost image. Mixtures of the naphthols may be used.
