Abstract
1,145,619. Bright zinc electro-plating baths. I. GELDBACH, A. GELDBACH, U. GELDBACH and S. GELDBACH [trading as DR. - ING. MAX SCHLÍTTER FABRIK FR GALVANOTECHNIK]. May 25, 1967 [May 26, 1966], No.24369/67. Heading C7B. An acid bright zinc electro-plating bath comprises an aqueous solution of at least one single zinc salt to which are added at least one primary amine having at least 4 C atoms per molecule and a water-soluble condensation product of one or more naphthalene sulphonic acid with formaldehyde. Examples of suitable amines are n-amylamine, n-hexylamine, diethylenetriamine, triethylenetetramine, aniline, o-toluidine, m-amiophenol, p-anisidine, and they may be used in their salt (e.g. chloride, sulphate) or free base forms. In specific baths the zinc salt is the sulphate used together with zinc chloride, sodium chloride ammonium chloride or ammonium sulphate as a conducting salt, or zinc acetate used with sodium sulphate. The baths are used at PH 2À5 to 5À5 at a temperature of 10 to 40 C.with a current density 0À5 to 5 amps/sq. dm. Dimethylformamide may be included in the bath to prevent browning of the bath and the formation of deposits on the zinc. Reference is also made to the use of zinc fluoborate as the zinc salt. The bright zinc layers formed may be chromated to a colourless, bluish, yellow, brown or olive finish.
