1,145,515. Skinless sausages. ATLASMAK MASCHINENBAU G.m.b.H. 13 Oct., 1966 [15 Oct., 1965], No. 45812/66. Heading A2B. [Also in Division H5] A microwave heating apparatus for the production of skinless sausages comprises a non-metallic sausage guide which receives the sausage composition from an extruder and which extends into a heating chamber comprising a cylindrical wave guide which co-axially surrounds the sausage guide and which is coupled to a micro-wave generator by way of a coaxial line arranged co-axially with the wave guide. Fig. 1 shows a suitable construction, sausage mass being introduced into the non-metallic guide 2 by means of reciprocating stuffing horn 1, distance pieces 3 being supplied at intervals from magazine 4 to divide the sausage mass into discrete sausages. The guide 2 is inside the wave guide 6, and the formed sausage then passes through an inner co-axial conductor 7 of a co-axial line having an outer conductor as a continuation of the wave guide 6, and finally passes through end walls 8. A cooling coil 9 cools the emerging sausages to prevent bursting. The microwave energy is fed from a generator via a co-axial line 10, 11 of smaller diameter than 6, 7. The dimensions of co-axial line 6, 7 and wave guide 6 are such that no resistance jump occurs.
