Abstract

1,145,021. Signs. S. T. JARRATT. 12 July, 1966 [2 Dec., 1965], No. 51268/65. Heading G5C. A signalling sign for a road vehicle comprises an elongated housing 1 of triangular or D- section containing one or more electrically energizable light sources 7, the wall forming the base of the triangle or the straight part of the D being the display face which is such that when unilluminated the sign is unobtrusive. The display face consists of a plate of opaque material 12 with the indicia in the form of light transmitting areas therein and an overlaying coloured light transmitting strip 13. The other internal surfaces of the housing are made reflecting and/or light diffusing by a white coating. The entire housing may be formed of plastics material, or the housing may be formed of sheet metal with flanges 2 which act as guides for a sliding display face. Suction pads secure the device to e.g. a vehicle screen.
