Abstract

1309755 Indicating apparatus JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 6 Aug 1970 [16 Sept 1969] 45518/69 Heading G1J Indicating-apparatus with a translucent dial 21 illuminated by internal reflection and with a pointer 28 movable over a scale on the dial has at least two ribs 24, 25, 26 extending along the scale formed integrally with the dial to project from the surface remote from the pointer, each rib having a surface extending into the dial to reflect some of the internally reflected light into the pointer and extending a different distance so that each contributes to the illumination of the pointer. A pair of optical cables transmit light from a source to bores 29 in the dial 21 which may be made of transparent synthetic resin and has scale numbers engraved in its rear surface 22 and filled with white matt paint. The scale is clearly visible against a matt black backing plate 23 and the pointer shaft 27 may be driven by a speedometer.
