Abstract

1316125 Illuminating instrument dials JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 6 Aug 1970 [14 Oct 1969] 50313/69 Heading F4R [Also in Divisions C4 G1 G2 and H3] In an indicating arrangement having a translucent illuminated indicator 12 parallel to a dial 11 and movable relative to a scale on the dial, indentations 17 in the surface of the indicator remote from the dial 11 each include a surface which reflects some of the light illuminating the indicator on to the region of the dial adjacent the indicator. The translucent indicator 12, which may be of synthetic resin, is driven by the tuning levels of a radio for a road vehicle and is illuminated by a light source arranged at the end of an optical cable 14. The indicator has a polished inclined surface 15 and the surfaces of the indentations 17 which reflect the light cause a rib 16 painted with fluorescent paint to fluoresce. The depth to which the indentations 17 project increases from the end of-the indicator 12 adjacent a shaft 13 to the other end of the indicator so that the rib 16 and the region of the dial 11 adjacent the rib are illuminated equally along their lengths. Background illumination of the scale 11 is provided by reflection of light, from an optical cable 18, by a metallized inclined surface 21.
