Description
SPECIFICATION
Apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help
This invention relates to an alarming apparatus particularly to an apparatus for indicating emergency condition and request for help on a motor vehicle.
Car hijacks are frequently occurring in today's society. During the emergency incidents, the driver, especially the taxi operator, usually has little chance to shout for help under the threat of the hijacker. As there is not any alarming device installed in the vehicle, the driver confronting this serious situation can only resort to his personal tactfulness in dealing with the hijacker, not only often resulting in fortune lost, but also incurring a crisis of life.
It is accordingly an object of this invention to provide an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help for immediately presenting the alarming indications on the outer surface of the vehicle during emergency time so as to attract the attention of the people passing by and get rescued thereat in the interest of protecting the fortune as well as the life of the drivers especially the taxi operators.
Another object of this invention is to provide an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help with a plurality of arrangement for display operations associated with a control circuit so as to completely bring about the efficiency of the display arrangement in emergency condition.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help with various indicators for accurately achieving the display effect of emergency and need for help.
According to the present invention, these and other objects are achieved by providing an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help during emergency time, which apparatus comprises a display means for presenting the conditions of emergency and request for help; an operating switch installed at a hidden place in the, vehicle with respect to the display means; and a circuit control means provided in conjunction with the operating switch for actuating the display means so as to attract the attention of the people passing by and get rescued thereat.The display means can be a movable turnover arrangement or an up-anddown sliding plate assembly or a flashing device by means of the existing display unit available on the outer surface of the vehicle such as the taxi symbol plate fixed on the top of the vehicle body, while the indicators thereof can be made in flash signals or in character display or the combination of both.
Other advantages and salient features of this invention will become apparent from the following detailed description, which, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, discloses preferred embodiments of the present invention, in which:
Figure 1 is a sectional view of the first embodiment of an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help during emergency time according to this invention;

Figure 4 is a circuit diagram of the first embodiment of Fig. 1;
Figure 5 is a three-dimensional and perspective view of the second embodiment of an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help during emergency time according to this invention;;
Figure 6 is a sectional view of the third embodiment of an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help during emergency time according to this invention;
Figure 7 is a three-dimensional and elevational view of the third embodiment of Fig. 6; and
Figure 8 is a circuit diagram of the third embodiment of Fig. 6.
Referring to Figs. 1 and 2, the first embodiment of an apparatus for motor vehicle to display trouble alarm and need for help during emergency time according to this invention comprises in combination a character display plate 7 bearing the words "EMERGENCY! HELP !" thereon being fixed on the vehicle body 13, and a license plate 6 secured on a plate frame 3 which is movably connected to the vehicle body 13 through a pair of hinges 12 for making up-and-down overturn movement thereto. The plate frame 3 has a pair of catch locks 4 fixed on each inner side of the back surface of the plate frame 3 for detachably engaging with a corresponding pair of elastic hooks 2 provided on the vehicle body 13 and controlled by a relative pair of electromagnets 1 installed thereat so as to effect the catch and release of the catch locks 4 thereof.A microswitch 8 of a circuit is installed beneath the character plate 7 for actuating the electromagnet
1 thereof, and a pair of release springs 5 are provided between the plate frame 3 and the vehicle body 13 for propelling the plate frame 3 to turn over downward and keeping it in position thereat.
Referring to Fig. 3, the structure of the character plate 7 comprises a substrate 9 having a plurality of illuminating lights 11 installed thereon and being available for the arrangement of other electrical components thereof; a rubber frame 10 provided as a spacer for isolating the light thereof; and a character plate 7 coupled with the rubber frame 10 and the substrate 9 and fixed on the vehicle body 13 through a plurality of screw 14. For better enchancing the reflection effect of the words thereof, the character plate 7 is preferably made of a light-reflecting board, and the words are written in a reflectorized material.
The operation of the apparatus of the first embodiment can be best understood with reference to Fig. 4, a control circuit diagram of the apparatus according to this invention, wherein an operating switch M. SW is installed at a hidden place in the vehicle for being turned on by the driver during emergency time. Upon the closing of the operating switch M. SW, current 11 supplied from the vehicle battery will flow to a microswitch 8 and pass through the electromagnets 1 producing a magnetic force of attraction to operate the elastic hooks 2 (as shown in Figs. 1 and 2) to release the catch locks 4 engaged thereto so that the plate frame 3 together with the license place 6 will be turned over in 1 800 by the elastic force of the release springs 5 along the hinges 12.As soon as the plate frame 3 is released therefrom, the micro-switch 8 will be off again, and the current 1, stops to flow through the electromagnets 1, making the elastic hooks 2 return to their original position. In the meantime, a current 12 from the operating switch M. SW will also flow into a flasher circuit 100 which comprises a unijunction transistor UJT coupled with a pair of silicon controlled rectifiers SCAR" SCR2 connected thereat, and a variable resistor VRr associated with the UJT. The illuminating lights L" are connected to the SCR2 which is under the control of the UJT for making the lights 11 (as shown in Fig. 3) flashing at a certain frequency which can be adjusted by changing the resistance of the VR,.Therefore, once the operating switch M. SW is turned on during emergency condition, the plate frame 3 together with the license plate 6 will be turned over in 1800 along the hinge 12 while the character plate 7 will automatically display the alarming indications in flashing state so as to achieve the purpose of getting rescued thereat.
After the emergency situation is over, just turn off the operating switch M. SW and restore the plate frame 3 to its hooked position through the catch lock 4 and the elastic hook 2.
Referring to Fig. 5, a second embodiment of the display means according to this invention comprises a set of display plate installed in the taxi symbol plate mounted on the top of the vehicle body. The structure of the display plate includes a character plate 20 bearing the words of "IN TROUBLE, HELP !", frame 21 used as a linear therein, and a substrate 23 having a plurality of illuminating lights 22 installed thereon and being coupled with the character plate 20 for making the flashing indications. The illuminating lights 22 can be controlled by the circuit shown in Fig. 4, and the connection is indicated by L22.
Meanwhile, the operations of the control circuit in the second embodiment are the same as that being applied in the first embodiment of this invention.
Shown in Fig. 6 and 8 is a third embodiment of this invention, wherein the apparatus comprises a character plate 37 rigidly mounted on a base plate 36 is fixed on the'vehicle body, and a license plate frame 34 slidably coupled with the base plate 36 through a guiding slot 371 at both ends thereof for being moved down and up thereat. The base plate 36 has a housing structure on the back for receiving a driving mechanism including a motor 31 installed therein, a gear fitting 32 and a shaft 33 coupled with the motor 31. The license plate frame 34 has a tooth portion at both sides of the back surface for meshing with a gear 331 mounted on the shaft 33. When the motor 31 is started running, the rotation direction and the revolution speed can be changed so as to control the rotation of the shaft 33 in driving the license piate frame 34 down and up therefrom.
The operation of the third embodiment can be better understood by referring to a control circuit shown in Fig. 8, wherein a pair of micro-switches y1S1 and ,S2 and a flasher circuit 41 coupled with the motor 31 and the illuminating lights 42, which are installed on the back of the character plate 37 and controlled by a double-pole, doublethrough operating switch 40 installed at a hidden place in the vehicle. When the operating switch 40 is switched to its "down" position during emergency situation, the micro-switch ,u,S2 closes to contact B while the micro-switch y,S, to contact A so that a forward current is supplied to the motor 31 for driving the license plate frame 34 downward along the guiding slots 371.Upon the license plate frame 34 reaches at its lower limit position, the two micro-switches will be actuated to have the contact A of ,u,S2 2 and the contact B of,u1S1 closed therefrom so that the motor 31 being out of power supply stops running, and the license plate frame 34 is kept at the down position. Because once the contact B of the micro-switch ,S, is closed, the flasher circuit 41 is simultaneously energized to make the illuminating lights 42 starting to flash in displaying the alarming indications thereat.
After the emergency situation is over, by turning the operating switch 40 to its "up" position, the micro-switch ,S, will remain closed at contact B, and a reverse current is supplied to the motor 31 for making a reversal revolution so as to drive the license plate frame 34 upward along the guiding slot 371 through the gear 331.
Upon the license plate frame 34 reaches at its upper limit position, the micro-switch ,S, is actuated to shift its contact from B to A so that the motor 31 being out of power supply stops running, and the license plate frame 34 is kept in closed position with the base support 36.
Meanwhile, as the power to the flasher circuit 41 is also cut off, the illuminating lights 42 extinguish accordingly.
It is to be noted that the words bearing on the character plate of the apparatus of this invention can be written in any significant word, such as "IN
DANGER, HELP!" "IN TROUBLE, HELP!"; "EMERGENCY, HELP!"; etc., on different character plates for the replacement as the situation may require.
While the invention has been particularly shown and described with reference to the preferred embodiments thereof, it will be understood by those skilled in the art that various designs in form and details may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
