Abstract

A vehicle is provided with an alarm system with a switch (3) operable by an intended user to set off audible (NM1) and/ or visual (S1, SM1) alarms, e.g. a siren and an illuminated sign that flashes a help message. Switching off the alarms may require operation of a security switch (4), e.g. by means of a key. <IMAGE>

Description

IN CAR PERSONAL ALARM This invention relates to an alarm fitted to a car, van or other vehicle.
Whilst there are alarm systems already available to protect the car etc.
when it is unattended, this alarm is designed to protect car, driver, passengers and goods therein, when the car is in use.
The way that the alarm would be used is this: The alarm is in a ready position and if an emergency arises the operator, eg driver or passenger, hits a button mounted inside the car. This activates the alarm which will continue to operate without any further action by the operator.
The alarm would give off an audible warning and/or an illuminated sign showing outside the car. The system could also discharge a smoke making device to summon attention.
The alarm can only be stopped by a switch that can be key operated or some other type of secure switch.
If the assailant or assailants try to disable the alarm it would continue to operate if already doing so, or be set off by the attempted disablement.
The sign showing outside the car or van etc. could show, for example, the word: HELP or SOS or CALL POLICE.
The sign would be illuminated by a lamp that could flash on and off so as to attract maximum attention.
IN CAR PERSONAL PROTECTION ALARM TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION FIGURE 1 The control box 1 is connected to the battery 2 and is controlled by the switch box 3.
When the switch box 3 is operated the control box 1 passes current from the battery 2 to the siren NM1 and the sign S1, the smoke making device if fitted SM1 and these are activated.
To reset systems the reset switch in switch box 4 is operated and control box 1 is turned off and siren NM1 and sign S1 deactivated.
FIGURE 2 Parts List D1 Thyristor R1 Resistor R2 Resistor SW1 Switch (Push to Break) SW2 Switch (Reset) 51 Illuminated sign NM1 Noise maker SM1 Smoke making device When the switch SW1 is in the closed position and switch 5W2 is open the thyristor D1 is held in the off position by R2.
When the switch SW1 is opened D1 is switched on by R1 and current is passed from the battery, B1 to the noise maker NMl, smoke making device SM1 and sign S1 causing them to activate, D1 will remain on when SW1 is closed again, SW1 is opened by being depressed in an emergency.
To re-set the system switch SW2 is closed causing the gate of the thyristor D1 to connect to the Cathode of D1 switching D1 off and NM1 and S1 are deactivated.
When SW2 is re-opened the system is re-set for future operation.
