Abstract

Closure of a switch in the driver compartment causes a small electronic device, (Figure 1), to flash front and rear nearside direction indicators alternately with front and rear offside direction indicators. Whilst switched on, the driver distress alarm signal has no operational noise. This signal will be recognized as a distress signal. <IMAGE>

Description

DRIVER DISTRESS ALARM SIGNAL This invention relates to a driver distress alarm signal Cars are already fitted with internationally recognized signalling and hazard warning lights; this invention allows all cars to be easily adapted to incorporate the driver distress alarm signal.
According to the present invention there is a small matchbox size electronic unit, which, when triggered by a simple switch fitted in the drivers compartment, will cause the indicators/ blinkers to flash alternately from left to right, at the front and rear of car. The design is such that when the driver distress alarm signal is switched on there is no operational noise, such as found with a normal car indicator. The driver distress alarm signal will become recognised by everyone as a personal distress call, requiring emergency assistance e.g.
police. This signal may be used only in potentially life threatening situations, and could be used in cases such as driver incapasitated, or potential physical danger from inside or outside the vehicle.Depending on the circumstances, the distress signal would usually be answered by emergency services who would be contacted by passersby.
A specific discription of the invention is now given with reference to figure 1, 2, and 3.
Figure 1 shows a schematic diagram of the driver distress alarm signal Figure 2 shows a pcb layout of the driver distress alarm signal Figure 3 shows the driver distress alarm signal, shown in use during one half of its cycle.
Power on switch not shown.
Referring to the drawing, figure 1 shows a schematic diagram of the driver distress alarm signal unit. It shows supply to nearside and offside indicators, and is powered from vehicle's supply via a simple switch, located in the driver compartment.
Figure 2 shows a layout of component of figure 1 circuit.
Figure 3 shows the driver distress alarm signal unit in operation flashing as illustrated, the offside indicators which in turn switches off and immediately the nearside indicators are switched on. This switching sequence continues to alternate rapidly between nearside and offside whilst the unit is switched on.

Claims (1)

  1. (1) This driver distress alarm signal consist of a electronic device controlling the existing fitted indicator lights, causing them to alternate rapidly from nearside to offside thus attracting attention, and will be recognised as a distress signal.
    (2) The driver distress alarm signal has been designed especially not to give any operational noise, as it may be necessary not to indicate any signalling from within the vehicle.
    (3) This driver distress alarm signal is adaptable to any vehicle.
