Abstract
1,144,245. Plasma furnaces. INSTYTUT BADAN JADROWYCH, 20 May, 1966 [22 May, 1965], No. 22648/66. Heading H5H. The longitudinal axis of the plasma jet 2 produced by a plasma burner 1 is arranged eccentrically and parallel to the centre line of a material holder 7 in a furnace chamber, and the jet 2 is rotated concentrically, with variable speed, around said centre line to uniformly heat the holder or crucible 7, which latter is adjustable along the centre line by an assembly 9. The burner 1 is mounted in a revolving cover 4 driven by a motor 3. Radius R is varied by an eccentric portion 5 of cover 4, and a guide bar 10, Fig. 2 (not shown), prevents the plasma torch 1 from revolving around its own axis. In a modification, Fig. 3, (not shown), the heat source is an arc 11 between a cathode in the burner 1 and concentric cooled rings 8, constituting the anode, provided on the support 12 for crucible 7.
