Abstract

[Also in Division F1] In a positional control system, a control signal is produced manually, the response signal is measured by a differential transformer, and this error signal is modified by a stabilizing signal. As described, the controlled member is the spindle for the injection pumps of an I. C. engine acting against a spring-bias, which is coupled to a cam determining the position of the core of a differential transformer. The signal from the transformer is compared with the control signal, derived from the slider of a potentiometer, and the difference fed through an amplifier and silicon controlled rectifiers to an electromagnet determining the position of the spindle. The response signal is augmented by a stabilizing signal proportional to the current through the electromagnet, developed in a series resistor or in a coil coupled to the energizing coil of the electromagnet and then integrated, to which the differential of the response signal may also be added.
