Abstract

1,143,095. Insulators. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 9 Aug., 1966 [27 Aug., 1965], No. 35622/66. Heading H2C. A part of the surface of an insulator of a first organic dielectric material which is subject to tracking is composed of a second, relatively track resistant organic material which is degraded by scintillations without substantial carbonaceous residue, the thickness of the second material in the direction of the potential gradient exceeding the scintillation distance. The second material may be applied as a ring or helix in addition to or in substitution for part of the profile formed of the first material. The first material may be an aromatic, e.g. phenolic or epoxy resin which may be laminated with glass. The second material may be an aliphatic, e.g. thermoplastic resin particularly polymethyl methacrylate, polyoxymethylene or, preferably, polytetrafluoroethylene.
