Abstract

1,142,788. Disc brake. DUNLOP CO. Ltd. 4 March, 1966 [5 March, 1965], No. 9468/66. Heading F2E. A disc brake has a thrust member, forming part of the brake-applying mechanism, provided with an electrical contact which is movable towards the brake disc so as to be engageable with the latter when the friction element is sufficiently worn. The thrust member comprises a cup piston 1 having an insulating sleeve 5 disposed in the piston skirt and fitting into a recess 8 in the backing plate 2 of the pad, to prevent the piston rotating in its cylinder. A contact pin 6 surrounded by the sleeve is connected by a lead 7 to an electrical circuit including a buzzer or coloured warning signal. The pin also acts as a mechanical stop limiting the movement of the friction element towards the disc. The parts shown in the drawing are duplicated on the opposite side of the disc to provide an opposed cylinder brake.
