A disc brake comprising a rotatable disc, a non-rotatable support, at least one friction pad 2 associated with the support and movable axially relative to the disc to engage a braking surface thereof, and a brake-applying mechanism (shown as a piston 1) engageable directly with the friction pad to effect the axial movement, two electrical contact pins 3 being secured to the thrust member and projecting into a recess formed in the friction pad so that the pins make contact with the disc after the pad has worn down to a pre-determined thickness. The pins form electric contacts for a signal lamp circuit. The piston may be of a plastics material.
