Valves or cocks fitted with independently-actuated supplementary valves; lift valves.-Relates to valves of the kind provided with a secondary screw-down valve under the main valve seating, or in the pipe line, for cutting off the pressure locally at such valves for facilitating repairs to the valve seating or re-washering the valve member. The secondary valve D is carried by a screwed plug B fitted, as shown, to the casing A, and a washer F of lead or other soft metal is arranged above the plug. When the secondary valve D is screwed back, as shown, the washer F is spread radially, and a tight joint is formed round the screwed spindle C and at the periphery of the washer against the valve casing. A cap I is screwed on an extension of the plug B, or on the end of the screwed spindle C.
