1,141,879. Pierce-nuts. G.K.N. BOLTS & NUTS Ltd. 9 Nov., 1967 [11 Nov., 1966], No. 50612/66. Heading F2H. [Also in Division B3] A pierce nut comprises a body portion 10, a pilot portion 11 bounded by a side wall 15 and having a piercing portion 12, and a shoulder 13, which extends outwardly parallel to the plane of the piercing portion from the side wall 15 to the outer wall of the body portion, the side wall of the pilot portion having a generally polygonal cross-section with rounded corners and at least part of the side wall 15 being undercut so as to taper inwardly towards the end of the pilot portion connected to the body portion. In the embodiments described the pilot portion is generally of square cross-section and is undercut either along the straight sides, round the rounded corners or both.
