Abstract
1,141,139. Coiling wire. SCHLOEMANN A.G. 25 Sept., 1967 [29 Sept., 1966], No. 43445/67. Heading B3E. A method of depositing lengths of wire in non-concentric overlapping turns upon a continuously moving conveyer is characterized in that the turn layer, during the time interval between the laying of the last turn of one length of wire and the laying of the first turn of the next length, is retracted in a direction opposite to the direction of conveyance of the turns of wire, and during the depositing of the succeeding length of wire, is advanced in the direction of conveyance of the turns of wire. An apparatus for performing the method comprises a rotatable laying tube 2 which forms wire turns which are tripped by an edge 3 to fall on to the conveyer 4. The laying tube 2 is fed through a horizontal tube 7 which telescopes into a fixed tube 8. The tube 2 and its driving means 1 are mounted on a carriage 5 which is movable along rails 6 in a direction parallel to movement of the conveyer 4. A length of wire or rod from a rod-mill is laid in turns on the conveyer 4 and after the last turn of a length has been laid, the coiling head is quickly withdrawn from the dotted line position shown in Fig. 1 to the full line position. The first turn of the succeeding length of wire or rod is thus spaced from the last turn of the preceding length on the conveyer. During the laying of the turns resulting from the coiling of the wire, the head is slowly advanced to its original position, the conveyer speed being increased for the duration of the advance so that the turn spacing remains the same.
