Abstract
1,140,972. Dosimeter. SOC. ANON, MANUFACTURE BELGE DE LAMPES ET DE MATERIEL ELECTRONIQUE. 14 Sept., 1966 [16 Sept., 1965], No. 41105/66. Heading H5R. [Also in Division C4] A dosimeter for ionizing or nuclear radiations comprises a light transparent, tubular glass envelope, air tight, and containing a quantity of thermoluminescent material and an electric heating element therefor, said envelope being closed at each end by a metal hood the bent edges of which enclose the corresponding end of the envelope, each hood being connected to a current supply conductor which conductors project from the heating element in opposite directions. In one preferred embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the thermoluminescent material on a support 1 is enclosed in tube 4 by hoods 5 the arrangement being rendered airtight by solder 6, the electric current leads 3 passing through apertures 7 in the hoods to be sealed thereto by solder drops 8. In a second embodiment, Fig. 2, (not shown) the tube 4 is rendered air-tight by sealing metal discs 9 to the ends of the tube e.g. by inductive heating, the connecting wires 3 passing through apertures 10 to be sealed to the discs and the hoods 5 by drops of solder 11. Hoods 5 are merely stuck to the tube 4 with a joint which in this instance need not be airtight. In a third embodiment Fig. 3 (not shown) the ends of tube 4 are sealed by glass discs 12 through the centre of which a metal tube 13 passes being soldered to the glass. The wires 3 pass through the tubes and are joined to them and to the hoods 5 by solder blob 11. The glass discs 12 are sealed to tube 4 by local heating around the edge utilizing high frequency heating in a metal ring 14 placed between the discs and the ends of the tube.
