Abstract

1,140,673. Multiple fastenings. CASSWHITE SHOPFITTERS Ltd. 17 Feb., 1966 [4 March, 1965], No. 9297/65. Heading E2A. An article of furniture comprises a housing 10 having a pair of movable parts D and fastening means 'therefor, wherein said means comprises a bar (not shown) mounted in the housing so as to be capable of limited longitudinal sliding movement and having projections 16 each entering a two-portion slot 12 in a respective one of said parts so that said part normally can traverse its intended path of movement between open and closed positions with 'the projection in one portion of said slot the second portion 12a of said slot being transverse of said one portion and containing said projection when said part is in the closed position, the longitudinal movement of the bar moving both projections in the slot second portions thereby to fasten the parts in the closed position. In 'the construction shown the article is a'filing cabinet which has a plurality of movable drawers each of which constitutes a said part D. Each of the drawers is provided with a said slot 12 which is arranged horizontally and which near the front of . the drawer has the second portion 12a which extends to each side of the horizontal portion of the slot. The bar is concealed in a tunnel in the carcase of the cabinet and the projections are pins which extend through the slots 15 in'the tunnel. There are two stacks of drawers and the bar has projections on each side. The bar is moved by a lock or a concealed actuating member.
