Abstract

1,140,022. Sulphur. SOC. NATIONALE DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE. 21 Jan., 1966 [23 Jan., 1965], No. 2953/66. Heading C1A. Sulphur is precipitated from gases by reacting H 2 S and SO 2 in an aqueous medium comprising at least one neutral salt electrolyte containing only monovalent ions at a concentration C 1 of 0À2-2 equivalents/litre, and one or more neutral salts containing polyvalent ions at a concentration C 2 such that the ratio C 2 /C 1 is 0À05-0À75. The first salt may be NaCl, KCl, LiCl or NH 4 Cl. The second salt may be an alkali metal, alkaline earth metal or magnesium salt of sulphuric, sulphurous, polythionic, hydrosulphurous or phosphoric acid at a concentration of 0À01-1À5 N. Preferred aqueous media are sea water, sea water supplemented by the above salts and solutions containing 11À69-116À9 g/l NaCl and 1À2- 180À5 g/l MgSO 4 .
