Abstract

1,136,589. Making sockets. F. R. BONHOMME. 13 June, 1966 [23 June, 1965], No. 26194/66. Heading B3A. [Also in Division H2] Resilient wires 2 are secured in a conductive sleeve 1 by gripping their ends 2a and 2b between sleeve 1 and the surrounding conductive tube 3. The wires 2 are placed in helical slots in the outer surface of a mandrel and the tube 1 is slipped over the wires, the ends of which are bent at right angles adjacent each end of the tube. The ends 2b are then folded over the tube 1 by sliding a sleeve along the mandrel and the ends 2a are bent over the tube 1 by moving the tube 3 axially along the mandrel. The tube 3 displaces the sleeve and its leading end is then bent over to form a securing rim 6a. The extension 4 of the socket, to which a conductor may be attached, may be made continuous with the tube 1 instead of the tube 3, and the wires instead of being turned back over the tube 1 are bent only through a rightangle and, at one end are gripped between the radial faces of the inner and outer tubes. At the other end the wires enter slots in the tube 1 and are gripped between the inner surface of the outer tube and the outer surface of an inserted plug carrying the extension 4, the end of the outer tube being rolled over to retain the wires. In a second modification the wires enter slots in the inner tube, Fig. 11 (not shown), and the outer tube is bent round through 180 degrees to form a flange enclosing the end of the inner tube.
