Abstract

1,136,239. Glass compositions. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. 21 Dec., 1965 [21 Dec., 1964], No. 54165/65. Heading C1M. [Also in Division C4] A glass dielectric used in an electro-luminescent lamp comprises a rare earth metal oxide, a glass forming oxide and a divalent metal oxide, the rare earth metal oxide constituting from 10 to 40% and the rare earth metal oxide and the glass former together from 50 to 75% by weight of the glass, the balance being the divalent metal oxide and optionally other compatible constituents. The rare earth metal oxide is preferably La 2 O 3 , Eu 2 O 3 or CeO 2 ; the glass former is SiO 2 , P 2 O 5 , GeO 2 or B 2 O 3 or a mixture thereof; the divalent metal oxide is CaO, MgO, BeO, BaO, SrO or ZnO or a mixture thereof. Compatible constituents given are TiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 and alkali metal oxides. A number of examples are given.
