Abstract

[Also in Division F2] In an axial piston pump or motor in which a rotary cylinder block engages a ported valve plate, the valve plate has at least one cooling passage provided with an inlet and an outlet through which working liquid flows to cool the valve. The liquid may be supplied through a restriction from a port to the passage or the passage may be connected to a port in the valve face which is swept by at least one cylinder port. The term valve plate is stated to include a ported end-face in the pump housing. The Specification describes how the passages are fed when a pump and motor are connected as a hydraulic transmission in which an elevated pressure is maintained by a valve Fig. 4 (not shown) or a pump Fig. 3 (not shown). When the transmission is reversible a pressure sensitive selector valve is provided to feed the passage with low-pressure liquid.
