Abstract

1,134,841. Valves. SANDALL PRECISION CO. Ltd. 7 Dec., 1965 [8 Sept., 1964], No. 36769/64. Heading F2V. A valve comprises a housing 11 with opposed inlet and outlet ports and containing a rotatable member 16 having a passage which aligns with the ports in valve open position. In closed position a closure member 20 carried by the member 16 obturates one of the ports. The member 16 is rotatably coupled, by a lostmotion pin-and-slot connection (30, 32), Fig. 4 (not shown), to a drive disc 26 on an operating shaft 15. This disc carries a cam member 25 engaging a follower pin 22 located in a stub 19 of the closure member. The pin 22 is slidable in slots 23 in an extension 17 of member 16 which, as shown, is lined with a bearing bush. On movement to the closed position, member 16 first engages a stop, and the closure member is then moved outwardly by the cam to sealingly engage the port. The bearing bush is made oval shaped, Fig. 7, so that on retraction of the closure member it can tilt slightly in a vertical plane to break sealing contact and allow the pressures to equalize so that the valve can readily be opened. To facilitate tilting, the face of the closure member is washed away in a shallow chamfer (35), Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), over the lower segment. The valve may have two similar closure members obturating each of the ports 2, 3.
