Abstract
1,134,603. Liquid phase sintering Be-Al-Ag composites. MALLORY METALLURGICAL PRODUCTS Ltd. April 21, 1967 [April 21, 1966], No. 18511/67. Headings C7A and C7D. A Be-Al-Ag composite e.g. 50-85% Be 10À5-35% Al and 4À5-15% Ag is formed by liquid phase sintering a compacted powder mixture of Be-Al/Ag alloy or Be-Al-Ag powders and a flux selected from the alkali metal and alkaline earth metal halides. The mixture preferably contains 0À5-2% by weight of LiF/LiCI in a 1:1 ratio and sintering is carried out in an argon atmosphere at 1000‹- 1100‹C. Compacting is effected in a die or hydrostatically in a rubber or plastic mould. The sintered composite is heat-treated at 500‹-570‹C. and then quenched in water.
