Abstract

1,148,596. Abrasive articles. INDUSTRIAL DISTRIBUTORS (SALES) Ltd. 31 May, 1966 [25 Dec., 1965], No. 24096/66. Heading C4V. [Also in Division C7] Sintered metal bonded diamond compacts are formed by compacting and heating to about 600‹ C. in a vacuum a powder mixture of diamond and titanium hydride or zirconium hydride and finally hot pressing the mixture e.g. at 1400‹ C. or a pressure of at least 2 tons/sq. cm. The diamond-hydride powders may be mixed with anhydrous acetone and the examples specify compositions containing 97% volume diamond and 3% Ti or Zr; 70% diamond and 30% Ti or Zr.
