Abstract

1,134,527. Welded railway joints. EDGAR ALLEN ENG. Ltd. 19 June, 1967 [18 June, 1966], No. 27307/66. Heading E1G [Also in Division B3] The welded-joint between a carbon steel rail and a manganese steel point or crossing is achieved by interposing a welded-on transition piece of austenitic manganese-nickel steel. The crossing and its transition piece(s) are preassembled, preferably by electrical buttwelding, and are then rendered austenitic by water-quenching. On site the rails are welded to the transition pieces by the thermite method.
