Abstract
1,224,889. Welding by fusion. EDGAR ALLEN ENG. Ltd. 20 Aug., 1969 [24 Aug., 1968], No. 40550/68. Heading B3R. [Also in Division E1] A railway crossing (i.e. a portion of railway track where two tracks cross over) includes at least one crossing-piece 7 of austenitic manganese-nickel steel (forming a substantially X- shaped crossing-piece for two rails) which is welded to the ends of lengths 1, 2, 1A, 2A of carbon steel or manganese-nickel steel rails, the whole unit being ready for welding to carbon steel track rails on site. Butt or aluminothermic welding is used to assemble the crossing unit, which is then welded to the track rails in the same manner as the rails are welded together.
