Abstract
1,133,596. Electro-photographic apparatus. GENERAL ANILINE & FILM CORP. June 13, 1966 [June 14, 1965], No. 26168/66. Heading G2H. In an electro-photographic copier an image of an original is produced on a photo-conductive copy web having a length equal to that of the original. As shown in Fig. 2, the original is fed from a tray 38 by a belt 52 past a vertical glass plate which is illuminated by a lamp 88 having a parabolic reflector 90, and out into a tray 56; the image of the illuminated original is focused on a copy sheet exposure plate 112 by a lens 98 and a reflector 100, the intensity of the light being controlled by mask plates 110, 113. As the original is fed in it closes a micro-switch 42 which engages a magneticclutch causing the copy web 116 to be unwound from a roll in a dark chamber 115, from which it is transported, at the same speed as the original by rollers 120 past a cutter 122, 123; when the trailing edge of the original passes the micro-switch 42, the switch is closed causing the unwinding of the roll of copy web to be terminated by a brake, and to operate the cutter 122, 123. The severed part of copy web is transported past a charging station 130 and the exposure platen 112, through a duct 152 mounted in a bath 158 into which liquid developer is pumped from a reservoir 156, past a wiper 166 and through squeegee rollers 154 which remove excess developer between porous belts 170, 172, and into a tray 26. The apparatus is fitted with a blower 78 which cools the apparatus so that it may be used continuously, causes a partial vacuum to be created in a suction tank 135 above the charging and exposure stations 130, 112 to keep the web flat, and dries the developed web whilst it is between porous belts 170, 172. A selected piece of a lengthy original may be copied on a short piece of copy paper, by lifting tray 26 and inserting the paper into the feeding mechanism.
