Photo-copying apparatus of the kind in which an original is projection printed at any magnification ratio has its optical system (lens 35 and mirror 30) so adjustable that a first fixed line, defined by stop 27, in the original plane is always imaged on to a second fixed line in the front plane of an exposure device 14. An original B is placed face downwards on a supporting plate 26 with one edge abutting the stop 27. A sheet of copy paper is fed from a device 10, is charged by electro-static charger 13 and passes into the exposure device 14. Alternatively a roll of copy paper may be housed in the device 10 and the web cut as it passes through rollers 11. When the leading edge of the sheet A or cut web trips a micro-switch 21, feeding is stopped, the sheet held in place by suction, and the exposure made by energizing lamp 28. Thus the leading edge of the copy sheet is always on the second fixed line. After exposure, rollers 22 and belt means 15 at the exposure station are started to transfer the exposed sheet to a developing device 23. The magnification ratio is selected by manipulating a handle 41 which will rotate the lens centre about a circle centred at Q and move the mirror 30 parallel to itself. As shown, the apparatus is arranged for a 1:1 magnification ratio. For different ratios, copying sheets A of different size are stored in the paper feeding device 10. In another embodiment, Fig. 3 (not shown), a plurality of lenses of different magnification ratios are provided, the original and copy sheets are arranged parallel to each other and the appropriate lens inserted with its centre on the plane containing the first and second fixed lines.
