Abstract

1,199,525. Exposing photo-sensitive sheets. ADDRESSOGRAPH-MULTIGRAPH CORP. April 3, 1968 [April 3, 1967], No.16077/68. Headings G2A and G2H. Apparatus for making an exposure on a photosensitive sheet comprises a copyboard 10 having a table 11 on which an original or several originals to be copied are centred; means (not shown) for moving the table and the originals thereon to the vertical exposure position shown in chain dot lines, Fig.1; an optical projection system - lens 19 and mirror 33 - for projecting an image of the original on to a horizontal image plane located above the exposure position; and transport means for delivering a photo-sensitive sheet 46, 47 or 48 into an exposure position on the image plane, the sheet being supported face downwards from the back, the transport means also causing the delivered sheet to dwell during exposure and then removing the sheet from the exposure position. As shown, the apparatus is suitable for electrostatic copying, being provided with a charging station 50, a developing station 64 and a fusing station 75, but the apparatus may be adapted for copying on to silver halide photo-sensitive sheets. In use, an operator selects the size sheet to be used, and this positions a probe carriage 53 relative to the mirror 33. The apparatus may be used for reducing, one-to-one copying, or enlarging, the position of the lens 19 being adjusted relative to a rod rail 30. Adjustment of the lens position automatically moves the mirror 33 and its associated probe carriage 53. The sheet of the selected size is conveyed to its exposure position on the image plane by a belt carriage 41. This comprises spaced belts which traverse the underside of a vacuum chamber housing 42 having a perforated bottom wall 43 against which the selected sheet is held by suction. The leading end of the sheet trips a micro-switch 54 mounted on the probe carriage 53 and the belts stop instantaneously while the exposure is made. For electrostatic copiers, excess developer may be brushed away by hand at a correction station 70 at which the developed sheet is stopped. Movement of the probe carriage relative to the mirror means that a sheet to be exposed will always be correctly centred relative to the mirror and hence with respect to the original.
